CPU Buying Guide
Computer
CPUs as you know is the heart of the system without it the computer
is like a body without the heart. So, much care should be taken
while buying computer CPUs. Today's CPUs are faster and does our
job fast. The latest and greatest Pentium 4 3.6 GHz monster is one
of the examples. The faster the CPU the better the performance,
but they take a good price for what they offer and some times as
much as for what a mid end PCs would be bought for.
All of the peoples all around here do not actually need a 3 GHz
monster, and so this computer CPU buying guide is designed to make
the buying of the best suited computer CPUs for any person easy.
First we take look at what brands are there which can offer the
best CPUs available.
Intel
As usual Intel is the best computer CPU making brand in the whole
world. Intel offers a wide range of computer CPUs to choose from.
Here is the range of CPUs of Intel. I've found some fantastic
prices on Intel CPUs. I have looked around and I don't think
you will find better prices or a more reliable service
1.
Pentium 4
Pentium
4 is the best suited computer CPU for desktop PC and if you want
to buy any CPU for desktop PC then I would recommend you that you
buy Pentium 4 range of computer CPUs. Pentium 4 comes in various
configurations. We would learn about the various configurations
of CPUs and which one will best suit your needs later in this article.
Go to Motherboard Chipset
article to know the type of motherboard chipset it supports.
2.
Pentium III
Pentium
III is a old model of Pentium range of computer CPUs. These are
slower than most of the CPUs of today, you may find a deal of Pentium
CPUs at lower prices. If you want to do light computer tasks and
doesn't want to do 3D modeling and MPEG encoding and don't like
playing much games than you can always look for Pentium IIIs. We
would talk about the configurations later. Go to Motherboard
Chipset article to know more the type of motherboard chipset
it supports.
AMD
(Advanced Micro Devices)
AMD
is the second best brand in computer CPUs according to me after
Intel. AMD is always known for the great prices it offers for its
computer CPUs. It is very well suited for the persons seeking good
quality high performance CPUs that most of the persons need without
spending much money.
1.
Opteron and Athlon FX
These
are 64 bit computer CPUs. These CPUs give a very good performance
and are very well worth the price. No wonder that the price of these
computer CPUs is lower but the price of the motherboard is high
and it is best suited in servers and workstations and are not much
recommended for home PCs. But if you do want to buy 64 bit computer
CPUs then look for the cheap motherboard that this CPU supports
at the Motherboard Chipset
article.
2.
Athlon XP and Duron
These
are 32 bit computer CPUs and they give the best value for money
ratio. These CPUs are very well suited for desktop PCs. If you want
to do some complexe jobs and want to play some good games without
minimizing the performance than I would recommend you to buy this
type of computer CPUs. AMD does'nt manufacture the fastest CPU because
its latest CPU doesn't match the speed of the fastest computer CPU
manufactured by Intel but I personally don't think that many people
do need that 3.6 GHz speed monster in their desktop PCs and if they
consider buying some slow CPUs from Intel then why not buy the same
from AMD, the performance you would loose will be nominal if you
compare it with the money you save. To look for the various chipsets
that it supports go to go to Motherboard
Chipset article.

The
configuration of various CPUs is given here.
1.
Speed
The
speed of the computer CPUs is measured in GHz (Gigahertz) the fastest
CPU available today offers a speed of 3.6 GHz but according to me
for most of the peoples a speed of about 1.8 GHz is good and for
the persons who does very heavy jobs such as 3D rendering and MPEG
encoding or is a hardcore gamer than a speed of 2.4 GHz would considered
maximum.
2.
FSB (Front Side Bus)
It
is the main highway between the computer CPU and the rest of the
system. The memory, PCI bus, AGP bus, all hooks into the FSB. It
runs at the same speed as the memory, except in the Athlon / Duron
where it runs at 200MHz and in the Pentium 4 where it runs at 400MHz...
Don't get confused with all that, look for the higher FSB if the
price is right but don't spend very much for a large FSB.
3.
L2 cache
Don't
bother much about it; look for higher L2 cache memory. Look for
512 KB of L2 cache if the price is right.
That's
all you need to buy a good Cheap computer CPU without burning a
hole in your pocket.
