Optical Drives
Optical Drives are the disk drives which use optical technology to read the disks, preferably a laser beam. There are many type of drives that uses optical technology which are listed down in this page. There is brief discussion about each one and a brief buying guide because more or less there is not much to choose from in this type of components. CD drive Nothing to say about it; look for any drive having a read speed of 52x or more. I would strongly recommend you that if want to buy only one optical drive and that is the CD drive then opt for a CD Writer instead because the price difference between these two is nominal and as you are going to buy only one drive, so you would be able to read as well as write/rewrite CDs.

CD RW drive Look for a drive that offers a configuration of 52x24x52. Confused with that!! In this configuration 52 is the writing speed of the drive 24 is the rewriting speed and again 52 is the reading speed.52x32x52 would be nice if the price difference is not much. As I have seen many peoples buying a drive that offers a rewriting speed of more than 32x and doing a rewriting job only once a month or so and if you are something like them then you would not even feel the difference so rewriting speed is not a big concern. Beside this if you want to see some DVD movies than I would strongly suggest you to buy CD RW drive Combo, which can read CDs as well as DVDs but can only write/rewrite CDs.

DVD drive DVD
drives are faster and better drives today. DVD technology is far
much better than the CD drive technology. A single DVD can hold
up to a capacity of 7 or more CDs.

DVD RW drive These drives offer peoples to store large (larger than you may think) on a single disk. I have seen peoples backing up their entire hard disk on a single disk and you may too. I would recommend it those who have some extra money to spend on their computer or for those who want the beast and the most reliable storage and backing up solutions and not to mention the peoples who download GBs of data every month and want their data to be in a reliable place. Any good drive with a configuration of DVD±R/±RW and has a speed of whatever you think is right because unless you burn the whole disk at once you would not feel the difference. Look for the configuration DVD±R/±RW with a decent speed and price.
